Artists Mikołaj Obrycki and Eddy Bogaert both featured their work earlier this month at Art Basel Miami 2021, which included a special Glo Creative pop-up event at a gallery in South Beach, Florida.
Native New Yorker Bogaert is an established artist whose paintings are much sought-after by those in the art, music, and fashion world. His work has been featured in multiple Art Basel galleries. Most recently he collaborated with Midtown Manhattan’s Bloomingdales and Lamborghini.
Through a variety of vibrant colors and contrasting aesthetics, he has described his work as a “chaotic balance.” Known for utilizing mixed media and bright colors against dark canvases he seeks to portray the complexities humanity.
Polish-born Obrycki specialty is in watercolors and utilizing mixed media techniques, tending to weave words and/ or letters into his art work. It’s akin to graffiti style art, which sometimes is discredited for not truly being “art”. Somewhere between abstract and representational painting, his work involves reoccurring themes that include women, jazz artists and even famous people such as Madonna and Elvis.
Both of their work could be spotted throughout Art Basel Miami this year. The weekend of Art Basel can be a blur; it’s always packed and busy with art galleries, upscale events, parties and more to see. But the two artists always make time to enjoy a quick bite in between Art Basel commitments. We got the two artists’ recommendations for where they like to grab a quick and satisfying bite during the art festival. Here’s what they had to say.
South Beach’s legendary Puerto Sagua Restaurant isn’t anything fancy. That said they’ve been cooking up Cuban specialties since 1962. This no-frills corner shop is blocks from the ocean. This popular spot is the go-to for the comfort food Miami is known for. Best selling dishes include bistec de pollo con arroz y frijoles; the Cuban sandwich; and a variety of heart-warming soups and stews.
For those in search of an amazing burger look no further than LT Steak & Seafood, a seasonally inspired American restaurant, at luxury property The Betsy Hotel. Their stacked Boucher Burger features cheddar cheese, spiced onion rings, black pepper bacon, pickled jalapeños, and BBQ sauce. If you’re in the mood for something fancier, they offer a new selection of entrees that include steak frites with hanger steak and Parmesan truffle fries and a selection of prime dry aged steaks ranging from an 8 ounce filet mignon to a 10 ounce wagyu skirt steak that come with your selection of sauces.
Then finally, for another quick meal stop by the popular Piola Miami Beach Fresh ingredients and attentive service make this the perfect Art Basel stop. Menu highlights at this authentic pizzeria include Italian classics like the Margherita topped with fresh basil; the Moderna topped with fresh arugula, diced tomatoes, and shaved grana padano cheese; and the Hollywood with barbecue sauce, brie cheese, onions, chicken and cilantro.
There are also other entrée options like the gnocchi legnano with four cheese cream sauce made with mozzarella, brie, gorgonzola and Parmesan; penne alfredo with chicken; and the traditional spaghetti Bolognese.
Here is to creating your own amazing food experience at next year’s Art Basel.
