Neville was speaking on Sky Sports ahead of United’s Premier League clash at Liverpool on Tuesday night.
United were thrashed 5-0 at Old Trafford by the Reds earlier in the season, and with Jurgen Klopp’s side chasing an unprecedented quadruple of trophies, many are predicting a similar display of dominance this week, including Neville.
‘I’ve not seen a group of Manchester United players in my lifetime demonstrate the lack of appetite that I’ve seen to play football,’ Neville said.
‘In normal times you’d say Manchester United have a chance of winning here and have a chance of shocking Liverpool but these are abnormal times.
‘Liverpool are as exceptional as its been in terms of consistency and winning every game. They don’t even have to play well.
‘This Manchester United team are as low as it gets in probably 30/40 years so I have to say its only emotion and hope that’s keeping me in a position where I think United could get something tonight.’
Victory tonight would put United into fifth and level on points with Tottenham Hotspur as the Red Devils chase a top four finish, while three points for Liverpool would put them top of the table ahead of Manchester City but having played a game more than the Citizens.
