In its notice, a Birds Eye spokesperson said: “It is possible that some packs may contain small pieces of red plastic. Any pieces that may be present are limited to the batch below and were distributed to ASDA stores in the South West of England and the South of Wales as detailed below.
“The batch code can be checked by looking on the side of the pack, inside the BEST BEFORE END panel. No other batch codes, retail outlets or other Birds Eye products are affected.
“Birds Eye apologises for any inconvenience caused. If you have purchased 4 x Birds Eye Beef Quarter Pounders with Onions 454g from an ASDA store in the named locations, with the above batch code, please do not consume.
“Instead, please take a photo of the packaging which shows the impacted batch code and send this, with your name, address and contact details to us via contact us www.birdseye.co.uk/contact-us.
