London jewelry house, Asprey, and hypercar manufacturer, Bugatti, have created a limited-edition collection of precious eggs. Designed by Asprey Studio, the Royale Edition of the Asprey Bugatti Egg Collection is produced as both a physical object and NFT generative artwork.
The inspiration for the objet d’art came from the words of renowned designer, Carlo Bugatti, the father of Ettore Bugatti, who founded the iconic car company. Carlo Bugatti said, “The purest perfect shape of nature is the egg.”
The limited-edition collections are backed by blockchain and created through Asprey Studio’s cutting-edge production techniques and materials. The accompanying NFT generative artwork is coded by Bitcoin specialists Metagood.
The two companies say it is the first collection by two luxury brands using a state-of-the-art technique of inscribing digital content on the Bitcoin blockchain, “ensuring the artwork will last indefinitely.”
Bugatti and Asprey began work on the precious eggs in early 2022 in both the physical and digital spaces.
The Royale Edition of the Asprey Bugatti Egg Collection echoes the signature Bugatti horseshoe grille, which was designed by Ettore in honor of his father’s love of flowing curved shapes, like the egg.
The eggshell of the Royale Edition is made of carbon fiber and crafted into the egg shape “during a long and complex process free from disproportion or imperfection,” the companies said in a joint statement. It’s encased inside a sterling silver diamond weave lattice, reflecting Asprey’s jewelry heritage, the ornate furniture designs of Carlo Bugatti and the art nouveau period—an era significant to both brands.
The surface of the egg displays a “Dancing Elephant” motif, recreated from one of the original sculptures by Rembrandt Bugatti, the second son of Carlo Bugatti. This dancing elephant adorned the bonnet of the Bugatti Type 41 Royale, considered by many car collectors as the most luxurious car ever created. In order to recreate the sculpture, Asprey Studio artisans travelled to the home of Bugatti in Molsheim, France, to accurately 3D scan the bonnet mascot of one of the few remaining Type 41 Royale cars. The sculpture was then recreated in detail by Asprey’s silversmiths.
The intricate lattice and carbon fiber shell opens through a hinged Asprey-created diamond door to reveal a scene of the Chateau Saint Jean—the home of Bugatti in Molsheim. In front is a sterling silver stylized Bugatti Type 41 Royale Esders that is removable. In true exclusive fashion, only the owners of the eggs will be able to see the artistic scenery inside, so the companies did not release interior imagery.
Wiebke Stahl, managing director at Bugatti International, said Ettore Bugatti “saw the world through the eyes of an artist, taking inspiration from the work of his creative family. We maintain these values to this day at Bugatti, working closely with our partners like Asprey to create objet d’art in the vision of our founder.”
A spokesperson for the project said the collection is limited to 111 eggs. The egg are priced at $20,000 – $50,000 each for the first 100 eggs and then $200,000 and more for eggs numbered 101 to 111.
