After years of pining for a plant-based alternative to the icon Golden Gaytime, the collective dreams of Aussie vegans are about to come true.
Streets is launching its much-anticipated Golden Gaytime Plant Based — with the same biscuit coating and a toffee-flavoured creamy centre.
While some vegan alternatives miss the mark when it comes to taste, the creators insist there’s no compromise and are encouraging customers to #TasteTheDifference — claiming the plant-based flavour is so similar to the original.
“This isn’t any ordinary flavour launch, this is about opening up our product to more Australians, so no matter your dietary needs or choices — we invite you to taste the difference,” Streets spokesperson Annie Lucchitti said.
“Australians have been buying more plant-based products than ever, and we are thrilled we could bring another Aussie classic into this domain too.
“Golden Gaytime has been around for over 60 years and re-creating this iconic product had to maintain the delicious expectations that come with our classic treat.”
The new addition comes as plant-based shoppers are becoming a huge segment in the supermarket.
In fact last year Golden Gaytime enthusiasts launched a petition calling on the ice cream giant to create a vegan-friendly option.
For $9.50 RRP, customers will be able to get their hands on a pack of 4 new plant-based Golden Gaytime’s at any Coles or IGA from early September.
