Arsenal have been given a boost for a potential dream transfer of Frenkie De Jong, after it has Emerged that Barcelona is interested in one of Arsenal’s players.
Spanish outlet El Nacional have reported that Xavi is interested in bringing Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Camp Nou, to solve their striker issues.
Edu can use this to his advantage in his attempts to bring De Jong the other way, which would also sort out the problems that Arsenal face in the midfield.
The transfer would have seemed impossible not too long ago, but due to Barcelona’s financial crisis, it means that they have to get rid of a few players on their books.
According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, the La Liga side have listed both de Jong and Sergino Dest as being available for transfer, along with goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The Dutch international is valued at £81m according to Transfermarkt, but with the sale of Aubameyang, this price would certainly be negotiated down.
Arsenal are in desperate need of a quality central midfielder to further support Thomas Partey, who has struggled to adapt to the Premier League since joining the club, and a partnership with someone as technically gifted as De Jong would certainly go a long way to boosting the quality of the Gunners’ midfield.
Granit Xhaka is certainly of the quality required for a midfield that can compete at the top of the Premier League table, but he has been ruled out due to consistent injuries and suspensions this season.

While, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland Niles are still very young and need time to develop before they can be considered as regular starters in the centre of midfield.
De Jong has Champions League experience, to coincide with his magnificent ability, and it would be an exquisite coup for the Gunners.
The incentive to sell Aubameyang should be strong after his recent disciplinary breach ahead of the match against Southampton, which would have certainly worsened the relationship between the striker, and Arteta.
It is a move that would suit both clubs, as Arsenal need a midfielder, while Barcelona would be able to sort out their striker issues, and also become more financially healthy, but a deal would still be unlikely.
