Spy shooters have caught Audi’s next electric crossover testing at a private proving ground in Germany.
Borrowing styling cues from the flagship e-Tron SUV, the sighted prototype is notable for the conspicuous absence of tailpipes, and the electric warning label visible in the upper corner of the rear window.

The 2022 Audi e-tron S Sportback quattro is coming to Canada
A mechanical twin to the upcoming Porsche Macan EV, the Q6 e-Tron is to be built in Germany on Audi-Porsche’s shared Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform. Falling between the Q4’s smaller VW-Group MEB platform and the larger MLB, the Q6’s luxury-oriented PPE architecture derives from that beneath the Audi e-Tron GT and Porsche Taycan.
The PPE platform is one of the stronger EV architectures around and should make the Q6 e-Tron an attractive product in the crossover space. Running at 800 volts, PPE is able to charge at market-topping rates of up to 350 kW. Stated range is expected to come in around 500 km. Such figures are already available in more affordable vehicles like the Hyundai-Kia E-GMP Ioniq 5 and EV6, but the Q6 will be among the first to bring this level of charging convenience to a semi-accessible luxury experience.

Thanks to its electric potential, the Q6 e-Tron is expected to deliver greater performance than its ICE counterparts. Though product details have yet to be confirmed for each market, PPE will support a rear-driven single-motor setup for base models. Twin-motor performance models will deliver up to 590 horsepower across both axles.
The premium crossover segment has become incredibly important in today’s market, so the Audi Q6 e-Tron will prove a particularly important step for the brand — and VW Group as a whole — as they work toward their electrified targets for 2035. Audi’s CEO has suggested a launch before the end of 2022, though that window is closing quickly. Also expected soon is a PPE-based A4 e-Tron, which Audi suits have said will be the brand’s most important electric model.
