Paul Kelly, John Butler, Missy Higgins and Dan Sultan are among a group of heavy-hitters from the Australian music scene playing free gigs in state capitals this weekend, as part of a national action in support of the voice to parliament.

Australians will head to the polls on October 14 to vote on whether to include an Indigenous voice in the constitution.

Kelly has already penned the song If Not Now in support of the referendum and published his reasons for supporting the ‘yes’ campaign on social media.

Singer-songwriter Dan Sultan, recently returned from a tour of North America, said in a statement he was happy to lend his voice to such a beautiful event.

“An event that is about optimism and empowerment, a lot of important work has gone into this and I’m proud to make a contribution,” he said in a statement.

The shows are linked to Yes23’s Walk For Yes events.

Kelly will perform at the Victoria Square rally in Adelaide on Saturday, with Emma Donovan and Marlon Motlop.

Higgins and Sultan will be on the lineup at Sydney’s Redfern Park on Sunday.

Spiderbait are performing in Melbourne at the Treasury Gardens with Midnight Oil frontman Peter Garrett and Mia Wray.

Also on Sunday, at the South Bank Cultural Forecourt in Brisbane, Toni Janke will perform ahead of a joint set from Bernard Fanning and Busby Marou.

In Perth, John Butler and Phil Walleystack are playing at Victoria Gardens.

All of the shows are free.

The performances will support the launch of Music for the Voice, a campaign encouraging Australian music fans to support the Indigenous voice to parliament.
