If you’re a meat eater, should you be able to barbecue no matter how “sickening” it is for your vegan neighbours?

A debate broke out in Perth, Australia’s northern suburb of Burns Beach, reported news.com.au, after a vegan family asked another neighbour via a letter to close their window when cooking meat, according to PerthNow.

The letter, which began with “Hello neighbour, could you please shut your side window when cooking?” was contained inside an envelope with “PLEASE TAKE SERIOUSLY” written on the front.

“My family are vegan — we eat only plant-based foods — and the smell of the meat you cook makes us feel sick and upset,” wrote the neighbour.

“We would appreciate your understanding — thanks. Sarah, Wayne, and kids.”

Reaction from Facebook generally sided with the meat eaters.

“I bet her mouth starts watering when old mate mows his lawn and she gets a whiff of that deliciously fresh cut grass but!” one user wrote.

“I’m offended by the smell of the kale she always cooks,” another wrote.

Still, others said they’d double down on using their barbecues.

“Oh, man … I’d be firing up the bbq and inviting the entire street,” one said.

“I would fire up the smoker and do a 12-hour brisket, with a sausage sizzle for lunch thrown in — entitled much,” said another.
