Both openers got off to decent starts but were dismissed playing loose shots but what hurt them most was the lack of contribution from their senior group comprising Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Jonny Bairstow. Harry Brook survived a dropped catch early in his inning to score 85 runs but will be gutted about missing out on a Test century. There were contributions from Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, and Mark Wood but their efforts were not enough to get the hosts over the 300-run mark. Woakes drew first blood for England when they came out to bowl but they will have their task cut out to get back in this game.
