Avengers Secret Wars: Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart ‘in MCU talks’

0

Following Fox’s merger with Disney, the rights for the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool went to Marvel Studios. Fans rejoiced when Sir Patrick Stewart played a variant of Professor X from Earth-838 in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and now it sounds like that wasn’t the last we’ll be seeing of him.

The 82-year-old’s Charles Xavier was killed off yet again in Doctor Strange 2, but with variants across the Marvel multiverse, he can return as much as he likes.

Now Giant Freakin Robot’s trusted and proven sources claim that Stewart is in talks for Ryan Reynolds’ MCU debut in Deadpool 3.

Given that James McAvoy’s younger version of Professor X cameoed in Deadpool 2, this seems very much in the realm of possibility and we wouldn’t be surprised if the elder actor showed up in Avengers Secret Wars too. After all, a different report is claiming exactly that for Sir Ian McKellen’s Magneto.

That’s right, the same outlet claims that McKellen will reprise his X-Men character in Avengers Secret Wars.

Again, this makes sense as the original comic book storyline sees the Marvel multiverse collide.

So not only could we be seen the 83-year-old Lord of the Rings actor playing Magneto gain but also, as this report claims, his younger version portrayed by Michael Fassbender.

There have even been rumblings that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine could be resurrected as a variant after his death in Logan for Avengers Secret Wars too.

Other recent rumours include Nicolas Cage reprising Ghost Rider from the Fox movies.  And, of course, variants or time travelling versions of Chris Evans’ Captain America and Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man. With the Marvel multiverse opening up, anything is possible now for the MCU.

Avengers Secret Wars hits cinemas on November 7, 2025 and will follow Avengers The Kang Dynasty on May 2, 2025.
