Aviation-themed beer-maker FlyteCo Brewing has landed an apt site for its second location: The historic air traffic control tower at the former Stapleton International Airport in Denver.
According to an announcement Tuesday, the company signed a lease for the 17,000-square-foot space attached to the iconic 164-foot tower in hopes of opening a satellite brewpub next summer. And because the building, which sold to Ctrl Tower LLC for $8 million in late-November, was formerly home to Punch Bowl Social, drinkers can expect to find bowling alleys, karaoke rooms, mini-golf and more when they visit. (Punch Bowl Social closed in June 2020 due the pandemic.)
Those who have indulged in a flight at FlyteCo’s first brewery in Denver’s Berkeley neighborhood know it’s inextricably linked to aviation, if nothing else from the salvaged plane wing and a full-size replication of a Boeing 737 fuselage where drinkers can sit. That’s because two of the brewery’s three owners are pilots. Additionally, the brewery donates 10% of its profits to support aviation scholarships, youth programs and veteran-focused organizations.
“The decision to pursue and open our second location was very much expedited when this property became available, but it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we couldn’t be more thrilled about,” said Morgan O’Sullivan, co-owner of FlyteCo Brewing, in a statement. “Right now, we’re focused on becoming good stewards of the neighborhood where nearby families will feel welcomed at our all-day destination.”
The new FlyteCo location will have a pilot system onsite for brewers to create small-batch and experimental recipes. It will also house a kitchen serving food, plus wine and cocktails, according to the announcement.
