Gabby Windey said she and Erich Schwer broke up because they simply “weren’t each other’s best match.”
During Monday’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars,” the former “Bachelorette” got candid about why she and Schwer decided to go their separate ways just months after getting engaged on the ABC reality series.
“The end of our relationship happened because we weren’t completely in step and in sync with each other in our common goals or just the way we approach life,” she explained to her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy.
“I’m just so grateful that my dad and my stepmom encompass so many fundamentals and values that I look for in a relationship, like never placing blame,” she continued, adding that she wants to “channel that kind of everlasting love” into the pair’s dance for the week.
The ICU nurse, 31, and real estate analyst, 29, called it quits earlier this month after Windey felt like they “weren’t aligned and weren’t on the same page.”
“Gabby was hoping they could give each other space and work it out but ultimately decided they didn’t have a future,” the insider told E! News.
The news came after eagle-eyed fans noticed Windey hadn’t been wearing her engagement ring while competing in the Disney+ series.
However, the reality star brushed aside the rumors at the time, saying she and Schwer were “supporting each other from afar.”
“I think life is just really busy for the both of us right now, so I understand [fans’] concern,” she told Fox News Digital about Schwer missing one of her performances. “We’re just kind of, you know, going forward with each of our individual interests and supporting each other from afar.”
Although the pair have gone their separate ways, Schwer continues to support his former fiancé on social media, begging fans to vote for Windey each week.
Despite their amicable break-up, there was trouble in paradise for the lovebirds.
In early September, a photo of Schwer wearing blackface makeup and an Afro wig in a high school yearbook resurfaced on social media.
While he profusely apologized for his “insensitive” costume, he was met with more criticism less than a month later when an ex-girlfriend alleged he went on the show to help his career — rather than find love.
Even amidst the public scrutiny, Windey stood by Schwer saying the twosome had to “grow as a couple and learn from” the mistakes.
