Back to the Future – Michael J Fox calls for massive change in remake

Earlier this month, Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd had an emotional reunion at New York Comic Con to thunderous applause and enthusiasm from Back to the Future fans around the world. It’s been 37 years since the original movie hit cinemas and people still just can’t get enough of it. This is something the Marty McFly star has only recently been able to come to terms with himself, having had a change of heart.

Fox said: “What’s most amazing about Back to the Future is that – and it has nothing to do with me – but it has this life. People don’t just like it and remember it, they celebrate it and embrace it and get my face tattooed on their leg, and I mean, it’s crazy but in a good way. I love it and I only recently have been able to embrace it in a way. Not that I rejected it before, or wasn’t proud of it, but I didn’t fully get how much people related to it, how much it meant to them.”

The 61-year-old shared the moment that turned how he viewed the franchise around.

However, Fox’s hopes are unlikely to come true anytime soon given that Back to the Future creators Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis have no intention of letting it happen.

Both are happy with the way the movie trilogy ended and say they don’t want to ruin anyone’s childhoods with an unnecessary sequel.

Nevertheless, they intend to expand the franchise through other mediums, which they’ve been doing for years from the animated show and theme park ride to video games, comics and the new musical in the West End and on Broadway.
