The duo indeed had to dig deep to win the final on Sunday as Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi were worthy adversaries on the day by taking the first game 21-16 with a dominant display.
The Indian pair retaliated well by taking the match into the third and decisive game as they won the second game 21-17. The final game turned out to be a nail-biter but the Indians held their nerves to prevail 21-19.
Satwiksairaj, who ended India’s 58-year-old title drought at the continental championships, shared his happiness about the success as well and promised to win more titles for India in the future.
“I am grateful for all the support we have got during the Badminton Asia Championships. It’s a great feeling to win this tournament for the first time and I am sure we will win more such titles in the future. We will continue to work hard to bring laurels to the country,” he concluded Rankireddy.
