Monday morning may not have gone Baker Mayfield’s way, but wife Emily is hopeful a Browns win this afternoon will end what’s been a dizzying few days.
Prior to kickoff against the Raiders, the Browns quarterback failed to test out of COVID-19 protocols, meaning he’d be sitting out a crucial AFC matchup. Emily later took to Instagram to address the “super frustrating” setback.
“Super frustrating, since he feels 110%. He did EVERYTHING he could to get that negative test…. but we can only control what’s within our control. And this isn’t one of those things,” Emily posted on her Instagram Story.
Mayfield tested positive for COVID-19 last Wednesday, in addition to head coach Kevin Stefanski. The Browns enter Monday’s game with 22 players in COVID protocols.
Amid the outbreak, the league pushed Saturday’s game between the Raiders and Browns to Monday. Though Mayfield confirmed Sunday night on social media that he is “healthy” and has “had no symptoms,” he was not taken off the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Third-string quarterback Nick Mullens will start against the Raiders as Mayfield’s backup, Case Keenum, also failed to test out of COVID protocols.
Although Mayfield will be sidelined Monday, Emily reassured Browns fans that the quarterback won’t be watching this all-important game alone.
“You better believe we’ll be cheering LOUD from our couch. Our guys can get it done!!” Emily continued. “Let’s show them what we’re made of and take that #1 spot in the AFC North.”
Currently, the Bengals and Ravens are tied at 8-6 in the AFC North standings, followed by the Browns in third at 7-6. The Steelers, 7-6-1, are last in the division, but only a half game back of first.
