Bangalore Stonehenge: Million-Dollar Question, Why Isn’t the Ejipura Flyover Project Completed Yet
On Twitter, we found Bangalore Stonehenge. Sounds like a grand tourist attraction. It’s not. It describes the abandoned pillars of the unfinished Ejipura flyover project in Bangalore. Beyond the amusing moniker, there’s a serious issue that affects not only the aesthetics of the area but also the convenience of its residents and motorists.
The Ejipura flyover project was started in 2018 to connect a 2.5 km stretch from Kendriya Sadan to Ejipura. The project’s target completion date was set for 2024, but due to various issues, including the bankruptcy of Simplex Infrastructure Ltd, the project has been delayed.
Unfinished Business: The Ejipura Flyover Project in Bangalore
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the civic body responsible for the project, has called for a tender for the fourth time, hoping to finish it as soon as possible. But how soon is soon. So why hasn’t the project been completed yet? Well, that’s the million-dollar question. Someone’s got to pay. A full report is available in re-tender of Ejipura project.
The delay in completing the project has left citizens frustrated, and understandably so. The unfinished pillars not only affect the aesthetics of the area but also pose as a significant sanctuary of nothingness Located near a busy junction (Sony World signal), their presence illicit not pride but are a daily testimony to what incomplete projects look like, and what could have been. It’s like a real-life game of Jenga, except the blocks are concrete and the stakes involve big money.
A Monument to Delay and Incomplete Projects
It’s been 5 long years since the Ejipura flyover project was started. But due to various issues (some of which probably involve a lot of finger-pointing and head-scratching), it’s still not finished. In the modern day, it’s become a bit of a joke. A cruel, inconvenient, and very unfunny joke.
At the very least, had the structures not been built at all, road users would have been able to use the full width of the road. With the pillars located near a busy junction, their presence has stiff-armed motorists out of precious road leading to traffic congestion, and even more frustration.
The Cost of Delay: Incomplete Projects and Its Impact on Traffic
This bustling city doesn’t need a traffic obstacle course. Average travel time per 10 kms is 29 minutes and 10 seconds. And time spent during rush hour is 260 hours per year according to 2022 TomTom Traffic Index. Let’s hope that the construction workers find their way to the site soon and finally complete this project. Because we could all use a little less inconvenience and a lot more smooth driving in our daily lives.
Before you go searching, Google Maps and Google Earth have already taken the Bangalore Stonehenge listing off. But it does live on at WJMF+C9R Bangalore Stonehenge, KHB Block Koramangala, 5th Block, Koramangala, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560095.
