Toilet limescale is caused by a buildup of magnesium and calcium which gets left behind and stuck to the bowl. The mineral deposits dry out and catch dirt and bacteria which is why toilet bowls end up with brown or green stains.
Removing toilet limescale can be difficult as there’s a risk the porcelain can get scratched.
With this in mind, fans of cleaning pro Mrs Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, have shared their methods for banishing toilet limescale.
The cleaning and lifestyle influencer has more than 4.6 million followers on Instagram and has authored several books.
Fans of hers have taken to social media in recent years to share their own hacks for solving common household problems such as removing toilet limescale.

On one such group, Facebook user Autumn Wilson posted: “Cleaning tips? This is so bad even the siphon jet at the bottom is partially clogged.
“I live in a very hard water area and I can’t clean this with toilet cleaner or a brush.”
The post included a photo of the toilet which had brown limescale coating the whole bowl.
Mrs Hinch fans claimed the best method to remove the stains was to use Black Harpic either in liquid or tablet form.
Sarah Jane said: “Black Harpic limescale remover. Leave overnight. You might have to repeat it.”
Ann Hardy wrote: “Black Harpic tablets left overnight and Black Harpic liquid. Used these over three nights running and a sponge scourer. Rubber gloves, scrubbed and started to come off.”
Karen Simpson replied: “Black Harpic. Empty the water and pour in a bottle all around and leave for as long as possible.
“Overnight if you can but at least a few hours. Then scrub and refill with water.
“I always use Black Harpic now as a regular toilet cleaner and it seems to help keep on top of it; or you can get Black Harpic tablets to chuck in the loo.”

Kelly Wilson agreed and posted: “Black Harpic everywhere. Leave over night. That will be completely white.”
Carlene Dunlop said: “Harpic power plus. Leave overnight, scrub then repeat. It will get it looking brand new.”
Jennah-Louise Leonard suggested: “Remove all of the water and put Black Harpic onto it and leave it for about 15 to 30 minutes.”
Black Harpic can be bought online or from most local supermarkets.

Other suggestions for banishing toilet limescale include using spirits of salts, cola, vinegar and baking soda.
Angela Barratt commented: “Spirits of salt will clear it instantly. You will need to open the windows for 20 minutes to get rid of the fumes.”
Karen Richmond suggested: “Try a bottle of cola. Just tip it in and leave it for a couple of hours.” Tannya Sawyer wrote: “Definitely Spirit of salts. Just flakes away. Failing that, new toilet!”
Louise Mcgonigle said: “Get all of the water out with a ladle and fill it with white vinegar. Soak old cloths in the vinegar to put on the sides.
“Use something non-metal to chip the limescale off when it’s soaked for a while.” Cyra Shimell posted: “Bicarbonate of soda with white vinegar to soak!”
