Barak’s MemoryHouse At The Broad

The Los Angeles Ballet (LAB) is closing out its season this week with premiere performances of LAB’s Artistic Director Melissa Barak’s original work MemoryHouse a meditation on the Holocaust to the music of Max Richter’s MemoryHouse.

Performances of MemoryHouse at the BroadStage in Santa Monica this Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 7PM are almost sold out but as this goes to press, there are tickets still available.

Richter’s MemoryHouse, his first solo album in 2002, is a haunting work that takes the listener on an emotional voyage. I can’t wait to see what Barak, a former dancer for the New York City Ballet, and founder of Barak Ballet (as well as being a former Crossroads and Westside Ballet student) has choreographed.

Breathe In,” a short film Barak made during the pandemic gives a sense of the fluid way she has her dancers move as individuals and as part of a larger whole.

This is Barak’s first season as Artistic Director. I’m looking forward to seeing MemoryHouse and seeing what the future holds for her and LAB.
