Margot Robbie has already gripped the internet with her incredible Barbie press tour outfits, but she almost didn’t star in a portion of the upcoming movie.
Barbie’s director Greta Gerwig recently explained that she was quizzed over recreating Margot Robbie’s feet in the upcoming movie.
She told Australian chat show The Project: “Everyone said: ‘Are you going to CGI all the feet?'”
The American filmmaker exclaimed that this was never on the cards for her or her upcoming neon-pink movie.
“I thought: ‘Oh god, no!'” she said: “‘That’s terrifying! That’s a nightmare.'”
On top of the horrific idea of trying to digitally recreate somebody’s feet, Gerwig explained there was a far easier route to take to bring Barbie’s plastic trotters to the big screen.
Gerwig said: “[Margot] has the nicest feet. She has these beautiful dancer’s feet. She should just hang onto that bar and do it just like this.”
Robbie herself has commented on the now famous moment in the trailer which showed her feet standing on tiptoes without heels.
Robbie revealed: “There’s no special effects, you’d be amazed how few [special effects] there are in this film actually.
“It was probably about eight takes. Wasn’t that many. I walked up, we had little sticky bits on the floor, double-sided tape for the shoes, so they wouldn’t come off, so I could get my feet out of them.”
Robbie then explained she held onto a “bar” placed just above the camera to balance herself on her tiptoes.
Robbie went on: “I wasn’t in a harness or anything like that. I just walked up, kind of held onto the bar above [the] camera.”
The Australian actress also revealed she had a pedicure before filming the iconic scene.
Barbie hits cinemas on July 21.
