If you have the Barbie movie set for your summer fun watch list, and have been curious about what to expect from the soundtrack of this undeniably eccentric flick, you are now in luck. Per an exclusive report from The Rolling Stone that has also been mentioned on their official Instagram, on the cusp of the new global trailer dropping, the full artist list for Barbie has now been released, featuring an excitingly diverse lineup of award-winning singers that will certainly add even more vibrant pop to the film.
Barbie is set as an incredibly colorful live-action fantasy comedy adaptation of the iconic Barbie fashion dolls that have been a fixture of Mattel and American toy culture since they first debuted in 1959. The film, directed by Greta Gerwig, is inspired by the 1994 non-fiction book Reviving Ophelia by Mary Pipher. Beyond being a strikingly visual homage to the fashionable toy line, the plot of the film revolves around Barbie herself, played by Margo Robbie, who is suddenly expelled from Barbieland for being a less-than-perfect doll. Accompanied by Ken, who is played by a bleached blonde and very tan Ryan Gosling, Barbie instead chooses to travel to the real world to find personal happiness. Along with Gosling and Robbie, who also serves as co-executive producer on the film, other stars include Kate McKinnon (Bombshell), Issa Rae (Vengeance), Simu Liu (Simulant), Will Ferrell (Strays), Michael Cera (Gloria Bell), along with Helen Mirren and John Cena who also both recently co-starred in Fast X.
A Soundtrack Fit For the Barbie World
A very pink promotional poster that has since popped up on Instagram reveals Margo Robbie’s Barbie looking at what probably is the latest edition of Barbie News, with the entire list of artists that have contributed to the movie’s soundtrack. Included among them are Ava Max, Charli XCX, Dominic Fike, Dua Lipa, Fifty Fifty, Gayle, Haim, Ice Spice, Kali, Karol G, Khalid, Lizzo, Nicki Manaj, Pink Pantheress, Ryan Gosling, Tame Impala, and The Kid Laroi. Dua Lipa stars in the film as Mermaid Barbie, and she revealed this past Monday that her song “Dance The Night” is reportedly set to debut Thursday. It also made a small appearance in the new trailer released just today.
Meanwhile, Gosling’s tune hasn’t been specified, but he’s definitely no stranger to belting serious melodies after his musical work on La La Land (2016). While all of these names make for a very impressive track list accompanying what will definitely be a summer blockbuster, there are apparently even more artists contributing to the album that will gradually be announced as the movie premiere draws near.
