Australian model Nadia Bartel has spoken out for the first time since a video of her snorting white powder at an illegal party during Melbourne’s Covid-19 lockdown went viral last year.
On Sunday, Bartel revealed that her choices “disappointed people whose opinion means the world to me”.
“I made a big mistake. And I accept that. I feel there’s a real, ongoing pursuit for it — still. And that’s what feels very hurtful,” she told Stellar magazine.
In the video, which circulated social media in September last year, the former WAG was filmed by business partner Ellie Pearson snorting white powder off a plate at a party which broke Covid-19 lockdown rules at the time.
Pearson accidentally uploaded the footage on her Instagram page, and Bartel apologised to her 533,000 followers the next day.
Bartel said she wanted her actions to “speak louder than any words”.
“The social media reaction was very negative towards me and hurt a lot. What hurt more was the feeling that I’d let people down who I love and whose opinion means the world to me,” she said.
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, the 37-year-old said the interview had given her a “sense of peace and an opportunity to move on now”.
“I own my mistakes and will continue to focus on what’s real around me, and in time, my actions will speak louder than any words.”
The influencer is a mother of two and the ex-wife of retired AFL star Jimmy Bartel, a Brownlow Medallist who spent his career with the Geelong Cats.
The couple split in 2019 after five years of marriage.
Bartel is also behind the clothing label Henne which she developed alongside her sister and Pearson.
