The Dallas Mavericks want Kyrie Irving back for the long-term.
That much is now clear with the All-Star set to enter free agency this summer.
According to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, the team plans to re-sign Irving this offseason despite the team’s struggles.
“The Mavs still plan to re-sign Kyrie despite team’s recent struggles, per @ChrisBHaynes. Irving is eligible for an extension but will go to free agency instead.”

The Mavericks acquired Irving from the Brooklyn Nets just before the NBA trade deadline for two players, a first-round pick and two future second-round picks.
The Mavericks have not played well as a team since acquiring Irving, sitting outside the Play-In Tournament race with a 37-42 record in the Western Conference.
Still, Irving has played well, averaging 26.7 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.1 rebounds this season in 19 games with the team.
