The hits keep coming for Ben Simmons. As the former No. 1 pick looks to rebuild his career and image following injuries and a dip in form, a new update indicates that he’ll need new representation as well.
According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Simmons has parted ways with the Klutch Sports agency. Klutch has represented Simmons since he was drafted, negotiating his $177 million rookie extension in 2019.
Shelburne says the sides agreed to part ways earlier this week, with a source telling her that Simmons “just needed a fresh start.”
The basketball world is reacting to the news, with many acknowledging how Simmons career is turning out.
“This is just sad,” one fan said. “Ben could have been a GREAT player. He had all the tools, and just had to work hard at one.”
“No point in representing a guy who’s never gonna sign another NBA contract,” another fan said.
“He was bad for the brand,” another fan said. Klutch represents several athletes in many sports, but has a strong foothold in the NBA thanks to clients like LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Draymond Green.
Simmons hasn’t been able to return to his previous All-Star form since joining the Nets, averaging 6.9 points per game with Brooklyn.
