Grizzlies star Ja Morant is once again making headlines for the wrong reasons. Following the team’s loss to the Nuggets, he flashed a gun on Instagram Live while at a nightclub.
Morant has already been heavily criticized for his alleged role in a confrontation that took place between his entourage and members of the Pacers. It has also been reported that he allegedly showed a gun to a teenager last summer.
Basketball fans are worried that Morant could throw away his career because of his recent antics.
“I can 100% tell you that there are some older people in Ja Morant’s circle who have had these talks with him. It’s all up to him at this point,” Grizzlies reporter Damichael Cole tweeted. “He has to realize what is at stake. That just doesn’t seem to be the case right now, and it could damage something special in Memphis.”
“Second time I’m saying it this week. Ja Morant has the world at his fingertips. He could very realistically become a billion-dollar athlete by the end of his career. He just needs to get out of his own way,” Clayton Collier said.
“Ja Morant is going to ruin his career by being a moron,” one fan wrote.
“Ja Morant owning a gun is not an issue. The issue is dude parading the gun around on IG live, while being amongst the public,” another fan said. “You’re already facing some scrutiny & that video just adds more fuel to the fire. Plus, you’re probably risking your safety & others around you.”
The NBA has already released a statement on Morant’s behavior.
“We are aware of a social media post involving Ja Morant and are investigating,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass said.
Hopefully, this is a turning point for Morant’s career. It’d be a shame for him to continue going down this path.
