The actor who played Batgirl has said she is “proud” of the film despite Warner Bros revealing they have scrapped the production.

Leslie Grace shared a joint statement on Instagram saying she is “proud of the love, hard work, and intention” that was put into “seven months in Scotland”.

She wrote: “On the heels of the recent news about our movie “Batgirl,” I am proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over seven months in Scotland.

“I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process!

“To every Batgirl fan – THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take on the cape and become, as Babs said best, ‘my own damn hero!’

“Batgirl for life!”

The DC film, which was also set to feature Hollywood stars Michael Keaton, Brendan Fraser and JK Simmons, was filmed entirely in Glasgow.

Production reportedly cost an estimated $70m (£57.6m) and the film was scheduled for release in late 2022.

However, following poorly received test screenings, Warner Bros revealed on Wednesday that they had decided to cancel the release of the production.

The directors of the project, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, said they were “saddened and shocked” by the move.
