‘Bawling’: Mel shares emotional family update

Former Sunrise star Melissa Doyle has gushed online about her son Nick Dunlop.

The proud mum, 53, took to her Instagram to share the news about her 21-year-old son’s latest achievement, revealing his rowing team won gold in the 2023 World Rowing U23 Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Doyle was there to cheer on her son and his crew. She shared a photo of him in his uniform holding his gold medal.

“Really trying hard not to be an embarrassing mum, but failing. Bawling like a baby. Gold!” she wrote.

“World Champions!! Back-to-back gold!”

Dunlop is a coxswain for Washington University in the US. He is the person who steers the boat and coordinates the power and rhythm of the team.

Along with his study commitments, Dunlop represents Australia internationally.

Doyle also posted about her love for Plovdiv.

“What a week in Plovdiv! An absolutely gorgeous town … rich history & magnificent food,” she said in another Instagram post.

“A gold medal certainly makes it even better!”

Doyle’s followers were quick to congratulate the family.

Sunrise co-host Natalie Barr said: “So amazing Mel. Huge congratulations Nick for all your hard work.”

“Amazing!!!!! Congrats Nick ????????????,” Gold Logie nominee Sonia Kruger commented.
