(KRON) — Monday’s storm brought lots of rain, wind and overnight damage to the Bay Area with plenty more wetness ahead.
Tuesday morning, thunderstorms and isolated downpours are possible as unsettled weather moves across the Bay Area, according to KRON4 Meteorologist John Shrable. On-and-off showers will continue through the rest of the week and into next week, Shrable said.

Video shows a timelapse of how the atmospheric river has been impacting the West Coast from Jan. 5 to Jan. 10.
10:54 a.m. — Fallen tree closes roads in Pittsburg
A tree fell and is blocking the on-ramp from North Parkside Road to Railroad Avenue in Pittsburgh. Public Works is on site and working to clear the roadway. ETA for removal is 1:00 p.m.
9:06 a.m. — Video of tree falling on Highway 9 in Ben Lomond surfaces
Video shows the moment a tree fell on Highway 9 in Ben Lomond in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Saturated soil and powerful winds from the ongoing storm have been causing damage throughout the Bay Area.
8:52 a.m. — Northbound CA-101 in Santa Barbara closed due to rockslide
A rockslide has closed the northbound lanes of CA-101 at Winchester Cyn Road in Santa Barbara, according to the California Highway Patrol. CA-154 is also closed at CA-246 and CA-192 due to multiple rockslides. CHP suggests using I-5 is an alternate route.
8:38 a.m. — Strong overnight winds blow through San Francisco
Video shows the storm blowing debris and garbage cans down the street in Russian Hill in San Francisco.
7:45 a.m. — Wind and hail advisory issued for East Bay
NWS has issued a special weather statement for Antioch, Livermore and Pleasanton until 9 a.m. Forty-mile-per-hour winds and pea-sized hail are possible.
7:10 a.m. — Downed powerlines in Gilroy close roads
Monterey Road in Gilroy is closed in both directions between Ronan Avenue and Pierce Street due to downed power lines across the whole street, according to police. Avoid the area if possible. There is no ETA on when the road will reopen.
6:30 a.m. — Wind and hail advisory issued for Bay Area
NWS has warned residents in the San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley areas to watch out for 30-mile-per-hour winds and potentially nickel-sized hail until 6:45 a.m.
A wind and pea-sized hail advisory has also been issued for the San Pablo Bay, Suisun Bay, the West Delta and the San Francisco Bay north of the Bay Bridge and San Francisco Bay South of the Bay Bridge until 6:45 a.m.
Pea-sized hail is also a possibility in Livermore, San Jose and Santa Clara until 7:30 a.m.
6:27 a.m. — Shelter in place ordered in San Rafael
The road has been reported back open as of 7:10 a.m.
A shelter in place has been ordered on the 100 block of Mountain View Avenue just north of Dominican University due to live wires being on the ground, according to San Rafael police. PG&E is on the scene helping with repairs. There is no current access to get to Grand Avenue at this time. ETA for reopening of the road is one to two hours.
6:20 a.m. — Storm damage in Belmont
Emergency crews faced a busy night in Belmont dealing with downed trees blocking roads, falling onto cars and one falling onto a house due to strong winds and lightning, according to police. No injuries were reported.
5:20 a.m. — Hail near Santa Rosa
The National Weather Service received reports of a thunderstorm producing some hail Tuesday morning near Santa Rosa. NWS issued a weather advisory for hail in the area until 5:45 a.m.
5:10 a.m. — Downed trees in Walnut Creek close roads
Police reported downed trees and powerlines on Ygnacio Valley Road were blocking the eastbound lanes between Homestead Avenue and San Carlos Drive east of downtown. Police had no estimate of when the road would be clear.
8:07 p.m. — City of Fremont declares local emergency
The City of Fremont has declared a local emergency Monday evening amid the winter storms that have impacted the city and severe weather that is expected arrive later this week. This comes after several Bay Area cities declared local emergencies Monday.
7:41 p.m. — All lanes reopened on US-101 in Gilroy
Both directions of US-101 have fully reopened in Gilroy, according to a tweet by Caltrans. Video shows a “moving river” along US-101 Monday afternoon.
7:16 p.m. — NB and SB lanes close on CA-35 in Los Gatos
All lanes on CA-35 are closed in both directions near Bear Creek Road due to a landslide, according to CHP.
7:06 p.m. — City of Petaluma shares list of road closures
- Stony Point between Petaluma Boulevard North and Pepper Road
- Auto Center Drive at Petaluma Boulevard North
5:38 p.m. — Landslide closes SB lanes on CA-17 in Los Gatos
All CA-17 southbound lanes in Los Gatos are blocked until midnight at Glenwood Drive due to a landslide, according to Caltrans.
5:17 p.m. — Northbound US-101 at CA-25 in Gilroy reopens
All lanes in the northbound direction have reopened. The southbound direction remains blocked.
5:02 p.m.– Large pine tree falls over Hwy 9 in Santa Cruz Mountains

4:10 p.m. — Police warn residents of a blown transformer in Menlo Park
Menlo Park Police announced that a transformer had blown near the 100 block of Oak Grove Avenue. Police and fire crews are both on the scene, and PG&E has responded to handle the issue.
4:04 p.m. — Video shows Uvas Creek overflooding into Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy.
4:00 p.m. — Vacaville Evacuation Warnings lifted
Leisure Town Road has reopened and evacuation warnings for Vacaville have been lifted, according to a tweet from the City of Vacaville.
3:30 p.m. — Evacuation Warnings issued for parts of Santa Clara County
Evacuation warnings have been issued to Santa Clara County residents in the area of Highway 101 and Bolsa Road, according to a press release from the county. The warnings are due to “weather conditions and risks to the general public and property” the release states.
Areas under evacuation warnings include:
- South of Hwy 152, East of Hwy 101
- South of Pacheco Pass (Hwy 152) and East of Hwy 101
- South of Luchessa Ave. and East of Thomas Rd.
- East of Santa Teresa Blvd. to Castro Valley Rd.
- North of Castro Valley Rd. to Luchessa Ave.
- North of Hwy 25 between Hwy 101 & Bloomfield Rd.
- West of Bloomfield Ave. between Hwy 25 & Pacheco Pass (Hwy 152)
- East of Hwy 101 to Pacheco Pass (Hwy 152)
3:12 p.m. — “No ETA” for reopening Hwy 17 in Santa Cruz
Highway 17 in Santa Cruz remains fully closed due to a massive slide blocking the roadway with “no ETA” for when it will reopen, according to a tweet from Santa Cruz County. According to Caltrans, the estimated time of reopening is around 10 p.m.
3:05 p.m. — City of Vallejo opens warming shelter
The City of Vallejo will open an overnight warming center for those seeking respite from cold and rain on Monday, Jan. 9 and Tuesday, Jan 10, the city announced in a press release. The shelter will be located in the Vallejo room at 505 Santa Clara Street on the backside of City Hall, below the JFK Library. It will be open Monday and Tuesday from 8 p.m. until 7 a.m. the following morning.
2:10 p.m. — Earlier SF traffic advisory in Golden Gate Park resolved
An earlier incident in which drivers were advised to avoid a stretch of roadway in Golden Gate Park due to flooding has been resolved, according to an update from AlertSF. Drivers were advised to steer clear of the section of Crossover Drive between Fulton and Lincoln. Although the incident is resolved, traffic delays are still expected and drivers are advised to consider alternate routes.
12:50 p.m. Caltrans announces US-101 closures in Gilroy
Caltrans District 4 announced that a three-mile stretch of US-101 is closed on Monday afternoon. Northbound US-101 at the HWY-25 connector ramp, south of Gilroy, is closed due to flooding. Southbound US-101 at the 10th Street off ramp in Gilroy is also closed due to flooding, according to Caltrans. Video shows a “moving river” along US-101 Monday afternoon, according to National Weather Service.
12:09 p.m. — Westbound State Route 37 closed due to flooding
Westbound State Route 37 is closed between Atherton Avenue and US-101 in Marin due to flooding, according to the California Highway Patrol. Use Atherton Avenue to access US-101. Avoid the area if possible and expect delays. There is no ETO at this time.
11:37 a.m. — Evacuation Warnings in parts of Vacaville due to flooding
Residents in the Southwood Place area, south of Marshall Road, east of Peabody, north of Alamo and West of the Putah Canal are being advised of a potential threat to life. KRON4’s Sara Stinson reports from the scene.
11:30 a.m. — Drivers advised to avoid Golden Gate Park roadway due to flooding
Drivers in SF are being advised to steer clear of Crossover Drive between Fulton Street and Lincoln Way, due to flooding. Drivers should consider alternative routes, a notification from AlertSF said.
11:00 a.m. — Marin County shares list of road closures
Roads were closed across the northern Bay Area counties on Monday. Details are shared below:
- Center Road & Wilmac Avenue, Novato
- Cherry Street & Armstrong Avenue, Novato
- Lucas Valley Road underpass, San Rafael
- Arroyo Drive, Kentfield
- Balboa Avenue, San Rafael
- Platform Bridge Road, Point Reyes Station
10:50 a.m. — Moscow Road near Monte Rio in Sonoma County closed
A photo from the Sonoma County Sheriff shows Moscow Road broken nearly in half by what appears to be a landslide. The road is closed, and officials did not share an estimated time of reopen.
10:45 a.m. — Evacuation orders issued along Pajaro and Carmel rivers in Monterey County
Monterey County issued an evacuation order for areas near the Pajaro River, including the following zones:
- B-001A — South of Riverside Rd; North of San Juan Road; East of Reiter Berry Farms; West of Murphy Crossing Road
- B-003 — South of Pajaro River; North of the Union Pacific Railroad; East of Allison Road
- B-005 — South of the Pajaro River; North of Matiasevich Lane; east of the Union Pacific Railroad; West of Allison Road
- B-006 — South of Pajaro River; North of Salinas Road; East of Union Pacific Railroad; West de Salinas Road
- B-007a — South of Bishop Street; North of Union Pacific Railroad; East of Allison Road; West of Union Pacific Railroad
- B-0012a — South of Pajaro River; North of Trafton Road; East of McGowan Road; West of Highway 1
- B-0012b — South of Pajaro River/McGowan Road; North of Bluff Road/Jensen Road; East of Pajaro River; West of Highway 1
The evacuation order was expanded to include low-lying areas of the Carmel River, from the ocean all the way through the Carmel Valley. The following zones are asked to evacuate:
- Zones near Carmel by the Sea — A-062B, A-062A, A-063A, A-025B and A-059A
- Zones along Carmel River in Carmel Valley — D-016, D-018, D-019, D-020, D-030A, D-030B, D-034A, D-034B, D-037, D-048A, D-048B, D-048C, D-048D, D-048E, D-048F, D-056C, D-056D, D-064A, D-064B, D-065A and D-065B

10:39 a.m. — San Lorenzo River begins flooding in Downtown Santa Cruz
Video released in a tweet by Santa Cruz County shows the water overflowing the banks.
10:25 a.m. — Landslides in Santa Cruz close roads
Southbound SR-17 south of Glenwood Drive due to a landslide blocking the roadway, according to CHP.
State Route-9 is also blocked at Holiday Lane. Please avoid the area.
9:53 a.m. — Flood advisory for Bay Area extended until 4 p.m.
The flooding advisory issued for the Bay Area including San Francisco, the Peninsula, the East Bay and the South Bay has been extended to 4 p.m. The National Weather Service said to expect minor flooding on highways, streets and underpasses.
9:14 a.m. — City of Martinez declares local emergency
The City of Martinez declared a local emergency Monday morning to allow the city to receive additional resources ahead of the next storm expected to come this week.
8:40 a.m. — Flood warning issued for Guadalupe River in San Jose
KRON4’s Will Tran reports on NWS’s flood warning issued for the Guadalupe River in San Jose.
8 a.m. — Flood evacuation warning ordered in Solano County
An evacuation warning was ordered in Vacaville for areas west of Peabody Road, south of Beelard Drive, east of Northwood Drive and north of Alamo Drive. Solano County officials said there is a potential threat to life and/or property in the area and those who need extra time or have pets or livestock should leave immediately.
7:45 a.m. — Classes cancelled in Pajaro Valley Unified School District, Aptos Beach Flats evacuation ordered
School was cancelled for the Pajaro Valley Unified School District Monday following a flash flood warning. District spokesperson Alicia Jimenez will release an update on reopening Tuesday.
The Aptos Beach Flats area in Santa Cruz County is under evacuation orders, according to the Bay City News. A flash flood warning is in effect in the county until 9:45 a.m.
7:30 a.m. — Tree down in Alameda County
A tree fell overnight on a house on James Avenue in Castro Valley around 3 a.m., according to the Alameda County Fire Department. Fire department officials said there were no injuries but the homeowner was in bed when the tree fell.
7:30 a.m. — Airports experience delays, cancellations
- San Francisco International Airport is experiencing 49 flight delays and 11 cancellations
- Oakland International Airport is experiencing 14 flight delays and one cancellation
- San Jose International Airport is experiencing 18 flight delays
7 a.m. — Flood advisory in San Francisco, Peninsula, East Bay, South Bay
The National Weather Service warns of flooding due to Monday’s storm in the Bay Area including San Francisco, the Peninsula, the East Bay and the South Bay. NWS said to expect minor flooding on highways, streets and underpasses. The advisory is in effect until 10 a.m.
5:45 a.m. — Evacuations begin in Santa Cruz
Evacuations due to potential flooding from the San Lorenzo River have begun in the Felton Grove and Paradise Park areas, according to a tweet from the county. Soquel Creek has reached action stage. Check your zone at community.zonehaven.com.
5:35 a.m. — Flash flood warning in Monterey County
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning in Monterey County until 8:30 a.m. Monday.
5:08 a.m. — Flood advisory in San Pablo
Police have advised residents along the canal in San Pablo to prepare for flooding, according to Bay City News. The advisory area spans from 11th Street between Palmer Avenue and Rivers Street.
