Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn says the club are not focussing on any possible summer signings at the moment, after links with Chelsea’s Kai Havertz were fuelled by the striker’s comments.

Havertz moved to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020 and has had a mixed time in west London, not helped by the chaos at the club which has now seen three managers sacked since the German arrived after Graham Potter’s dismissal.

Bayern were keen on the 23-year-old when he signed for the Blues, but he says that was a difficult choice as the German giants are tough to turn down.

Asked about his decision to pick Stamford Bridge over the Allianz Arena three years ago, Havertz told BILD: ‘Bayern is a huge club and for me, especially as a German, it’s difficult to say no.

‘But my goal has always been to play abroad and see a new country.’

Unsurprisingly those comments had many thinking that a summer move could be on the cards, especially as Bayern have now hired Thomas Tuchel as manager, who seemed to work well with Havertz during their time together at Stamford Bridge.

However, Kahn says it is simply not their focus at the moment as they challenge for Bundesliga and Champions League titles under their new boss.

‘It doesn’t make sense to mention it right now. As I said, our focus is fully on this season and not on future topics,’ Kahn told BILD. ‘We are not discussing new signings with Tuchel now.’

Havertz has been playing regularly at Chelsea this season, scoring seven Premier League goals in 27 appearances, but he has done little to stop this speculation.

Asked if it would still be difficult to say no to Bayern if they made an approach now, Havertz replied emphatically: ‘Clearly!’

On Tuchel, he continued: ‘I had a very good relationship with him and am very grateful for everything.’
