BBC Breakfast presenter Jon Kay announces break from morning show

Jon Kay took to Instagram this evening and announced he will be going on holiday for the next two weeks as he enjoys some downtime with his family.

Taking to his stories, the BBC Breakfast presenter told his 2,581 followers he will be enjoying a lie-in.

He wrote: “Enjoying some extra sleep and long planned annual leave with the family. So no need to set my alarm clock tomorrow.

“Back on the red sofa with my BBC Breakfast family in Salford in two weeks’ time.”

Social media users flocked to comment on the post as they sent their well wishes to the broadcaster.

One person commented: “Have a lovely break Jon, kick back and relax.”

Another remarked: “Bless you Jon and enjoy your leave,” while another penned: “Enjoy your well earned break, quality family time.”

A fourth wrote: “Enjoy your break and thank you for letting us know.”

A fifth added: “Have a lovely holiday with your family and see you when you get back.”

“You will be missed, fully understand why you’ve posted this, I would do exactly the same,” another added.

Jon also shared the post on his official Twitter account and his replacement has not yet been announced.

The 53-year-old replaced Dan Walker following his exit from the programme last year, landing a permanent position on the iconic red sofa in July 2022.

Jon has worked at the BBC for 30 years and has been with the Breakfast team since 2010.

He is married to former BBC News reporter and presenter Francesca Kasteliz.

The pair met while working at BBC Bristol back in 1998 – where Susanna Reid also started her career.

Francesca now works as a TV presenter coach and has worked for herself at TV Coach Limited for 14 years.

She provides performance coaching for on-air talent, helping clients working at broadcasters such as the BBC, CBBC and Channel 4.

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.
