The beloved presenter explained in a heartwrenching Twitter post: “I’m in the room no one wants to be in.”
She explained to her thousands of followers: “There’s no easy way to put this but I need to share what’s going on behind the scenes with me. I’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer that’s also in my lymph glands.
“It’s a complete shock. I’ve felt my brain explode into a thousand pieces of fear.
“I’m massively grateful for all the help and support in putting the pieces together again.”

Laura added that she’ll be starting chemotherapy in a few weeks and will have to “duck out of my usual activities” during the treatment as she’ll be immunocompromised.
The devastated star added: “Sorry if I haven’t been able to tell you personally – it’s emotionally tough and hospital appointments and admin is full on.”
However, she encouraged her friends, family and fans to not “feel awkward about getting in touch”, adding that she is more than happy to be distracted by the “normal stuff of life” they have to share.
She concluded with an urgent warning: “If you’ve got any lumps, bumps or any other health worries – get them checked.
“And if you find yourself entering the room that no one wants access to – I promise it is full of love and support.”
Unsurprisingly, the presenter received an onslaught of the love and support she mentioned in the comments of her post, and has since been open and candid about her cancer journey, sharing tips, tricks and diagnosis insights as she goes.
As the star celebrated her birthday earlier this week, she took her dedication to awareness of breast cancer to a new level.
Taking to Twitter again, the radio DJ shared: “As you know, I’ve had some bad news recently but it’s my birthday and I want to do good.
“Penny Brohn UK has been incredible at helping me since my cancer diagnosis – I want them to be able to keep doing what they do for many more people and years to come.”
The star attached a Just Giving fundraiser link to the page, collecting donations for the Bristol charity that provides practical and emotional support to help people live well with cancer.
