As reported by ComicBook.com, Vermont State Police recently revealed that Tim Burton’s upcoming Beetlejuice 2 experienced some unexpected losses after props from the set of the highly-anticipated sequel were stolen by thieves. The outlet noted that in addition to a 150-pound statue, the offenders also took a lamppost that feature a pumpkin decoration.
Beetlejuice 2 is the long-awaited follow-up to Burton’s popular movie Beetlejuice which starred Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder. The first film followed couple Barbara (played by Davis) and Adam Maitland (played by Baldwin), spirits who attempt to rid their house of the new family that moved in after the pair died in a car crash. After struggling to get the Deetz family to leave their home, the Maitland’s hired the devious Beetlejuice to scare them away for good.
On Twitter, the Vermont State Police joked about their failed attempt to retrieve one of the stolen items saying, “We tried saying the name of this stolen statue three times, but it didn’t come back!”
They added,” We’re investigating the theft of this 150-pound sculpture from the “Beetlejuice 2″ set in E. Corinth, along with a lamppost topped with a pumpkin decoration. Call 802-748-3111 with any info.”
Beetlejuice 2 is currently set to premiere next year on September 6tth 2024. In addition to Burton returning to direct the long-awaited sequel, stars Michael Keaton, Ryder, and O’Hara are all returning to reprise their characters from the 1988 comedy. New members of the cast include Jenna Ortega (whose credited as Lydia’s daughter), Monica Bellucci (who will play Beetlejuice’s wife), Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux.
Beetlejuice composer Danny Elfman will also be returning to work on the score for the sequel. Previously, while speaking to Deadline, the Oscar-nominated composer talked about collaborating with Burton on Wednesday and Beetlejuice 2, saying, “I love being a fly on the wall when he’s shooting. I’ll be doing that in a couple of months, as you may know, on another Tim Burton project.”
Danny Elfman Said that It’s “Very Exciting, To Return to That World”
Elfman added, “This is very exciting, to return to that world.”
The composer also discussed Keaton’s reprisal of the iconic Beetlejuice and revealed why it won’t be difficult for the Batman Returns star to bring back the popular character.
Elfman stated, “I said, ‘He’s not even going to look that much different. That’s the beauty of the Beetlejuice makeup. He already looked like he was 150 in the first one.'”
The composer went on to say, “It’s perfect, you know? Everybody else has to play the next generation, except for Michael. I mean, he’s still like really fit and really active and really on it. And with the Beetlejuice makeup, I can’t even imagine it’s going to look like he’s changed practically at all. So, I can’t wait for that.”
Back in June, while chatting with Empire, Keaton expressed his enthusiasm about bringing the iconic character back for new adventures. He said, “Beetlejuice is the most f–kin’ fun you can have working. It’s so fun, it’s so great. And you know what it is? We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie.”
He continued, “There’s a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line – I want people to know this because I love it – tugging on the tail of a cat to make it move.”
