With Dobaara, writer-director Bejoy Nambiar explores the concept of a do-over in life. The film, starring Manav Kaul and Parvathy Omanakuttan, tells the tale of an unlikely relationship stemming from a loveless marriage and how it’s never too late to pursue your heart’s desires. “We all deserve a second chance. Someone in my family narrated an incident to me, which led me to write this movie,” begins Nambiar. It is often said that one should never have to change themselves for love. Through the ZEE5 offering, the director questions the idea. “I have seen people stuck in loveless relationships and marriages, and that helped me shape this film differently. I feel people should reinvent for those they love, but never change the core of who they are as human beings. These aspects go hand-in-hand. Both are needed to make a relationship work.”

Having strong actors like Kaul and Omanakuttan was a bonus. The filmmaker reveals that Kaul’s character was written as a negative guy, but the actor’s performance made him change the graph. “Manav interpreted each scene differently in the first two days. He brought vulnerability to the character, thus tilting the scale. The part was not negative anymore. I used that aspect, and moved away from what I had in mind. Now, the character is believable and rooted. Parvathy brought more frailties [to her role].” Nambiar, known for thrillers like Shaitan (2011) and Wazir (2016), is now busy with the shoot of Kaala. He adds, “We are on the verge of finishing it.”
