Ben Affleck ‘slams’ door on Jennifer Lopez, day before ‘tense’ moment at movie premiere

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez do all they can to put forward the idea that they are madly-in-love newlyweds but they continue to make headlines for their seemingly tense interactions in public.

That was again the case this week. A new viral video shows an irritated-looking Affleck leading his wife to a car after a coffee run in Los Angeles Tuesday. But after Lopez, 53, takes her seat, Affleck, 50, shuts the door in a way that some fans saw as “a slam” and makes them question his mood, Page Six reported.

The next night, Lopez and Affleck briefly glared at each other and appeared to be having a tense conversation just as they were about to hit the red carpet together for the premiere of her new movie, “The Mother,” the Daily Mail and Page Six reported.

Lopez had “a frown” on her face and was gesturing at Affleck, whom she married last year, the Daily Mail said. But their intense expressions disappeared as soon as they realized they were being photographed, and the couple launched into red-carpet mode, smiling and posing for the cameras and holding each other, giggling and exchanging kisses.

A lipreader hired by the Daily Mail to interpret the couple’s remarks said their tense moment might have been fairly benign and involved the two debating their poses for the cameras. During their exchange, Lopez appeared to ask Affleck if her low-cut top was showing too much, prompting him to say it was fine, the lipreader said. After striking a pose, Affleck appeared to tell his wife to come closer to him before leaning into her ear and saying, “Don’t worry, babe,” the lip reader said.

Who knows what to make of these moments? Trouble in paradise? Or the pressures of being in the spotlight? Perhaps, as some fans said, Affleck’s coffee-run door “slam” was an expression of frustration and directed at the paparazzi following them — not his wife.

Could it also be that the “Air” director doesn’t enjoy playing the Hollywood game as much as his image-conscious wife?

That disparity in approaches to fame was very much on display in February when the newlyweds attended the Grammys. The couple, who reconnected in 2021 after burning through a high-profile romance in the early 2000s, generated countless memes when Affleck appeared to upset Lopez with something whispered in her ear and proceeded to look bored, exhausted or miserable the rest of the evening.

“Stop, look more friendly. Look motivated,” Lopez may have said to Affleck that night, according to another lip reader hired by the Daily Mail. Affleck replied, “I might,” according to the lip reader. In video clips, he could be seen frowning, then straightening his vest and posture, as it dawned on him that this awkward moment was caught on camera.

Lopez made her expression go blank as she, too, realized that whatever passed between them would end up being broadcast and dissected on social media. The actor and pop diva then tried to make it appear that she was engaged in the excitement around her. She tried to keep up the appearance of having a good time, and wore a big smile on her face as she presented Harry Styles the Best Pop Vocal Album for “Harry’s House.”

The next day, Lopez tried to make light of Affleck’s visible grumpiness by taking to Instagram to gush about him. She posted happy-looking highlights from their Grammy night out: “Always the best time with my love, my husband,” she captioned the post.

Given that Affleck may not be a fan of these splashy events, it is perhaps no surprise that Lopez decided to leave him at home and hit the Met Gala solo last week. Certainly, Lopez doesn’t need Affleck or any other escort to make an entrance — which she certainly did at the Met Gala, rocking a dramatic pink-and-black Ralph Lauren ensemble that boasted a lengthy train, a cleavage-revealing bodice and sophisticated fascinator.
