The 2022-23 season will go down as one to forget for Ben Simmons, who played just 42 games for the Nets. That being said, better days could be ahead for the former No. 1 overall pick.
According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, Simmons hopes to play for the Australian national team in this summer’s FIBA World Cup.
Simmons, who averaged 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game this season, missed an extended period of time due to a back injury.
As of this moment, Simmons has not yet been cleared for action.

Australia coach Brian Goorjian is optimistic that Simmons will be ready to compete this summer.
“I think his mindset is getting healthy, getting in shape and getting ready to play in this [World Cup],” Goorjian said. “There were unfortunate circumstances [why he didn’t play at the Olympics], but I feel like he is going to make himself available.”
Australia will begin its World Cup schedule on Aug. 25 against Finland.
