Award-winning actor Ben Whishaw has hailed the late Queen Elizabeth II’s performance in a sketch featuring Paddington Bear.
The skit was part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations last year and received much praise.
In the short clip, Paddington (voiced by Whishaw) went to tea with the Queen with the Peruvian bear making something of a faux pas as he drank straight from a teapot, before offering the dregs to the royal.
After this, Paddington offered the Queen a marmalade sandwich “in case of emergencies”, only to be surprised when she produced her own one from her handbag.
Speaking to media including Express.co.uk, Whishaw said: “I thought it was wonderful.

“I thought it was very funny, very nicely written and most of all I thought the Queen did a brilliant job of acting with nothing.
“There’s a like a stick with a tennis ball on the end of it. It’s amazing, it’s really hard to do and she did brilliantly.”
His words come after the actor took home his third BAFTA for the medical drama This Is Going to Hurt, based on former doctor Adam Kay’s book of the same name.
Whishaw said: “It was an amazing role to be given and it was an amazing experience being involved.”
The star went on to say: “I hadn’t worked for a year and then it was the first acting I’d done for 12 months, so I was really very nervous.
“One, about the role but also because I hadn’t acted in ages and we’d gone through the pandemic, so it was a very special job.”
Adding: “So timely, everyone could feel that it was about something important.”
Reflecting on his win, Whishaw said: “It definitely feels incredibly special. To be recognised and to keep on [being recognised] in this way is amazing.
“I do not take it for granted in any way at all. I am actually completely amazed and overwhelmed.
“But I don’t really think about awards when you’re doing the work.”
The star, who is also known for Q in the James Bond film franchise, said he didn’t know “how the hell” awards worked and his focus was always on the project.
Whishaw fended off competition from Taron Egerton for Apple TV+’s Black Bird, Martin Freeman for BBC’s The Responder, Cillian Murphy for Peaky Blinders, Gary Oldman in Apple TV+’s Slow Horses and Chaske Spencer in The English.
In his winning speech, Whishaw praised his fellow nominees as well as describing his This Is Going to Hurt co-star Ambika Mod as his “best actor”.
