Swedish furniture giant IKEA is now hiring at its newest location – Bengaluru. The firm, headquartered in the Netherlands, opened its largest store in India on June 22 in Bengaluru’s Nagasandra area, adjacent to the metro station.

On the first weekend after opening, the store saw a three-hour wait time at Bengaluru as people flocked there in large numbers.

The company is said to be working towards attracting close to five million visitors this year with a planned investment of Rs. 3,000 crore in Karnataka. The firm has even decided to shift its purchasing office from Gurugram to Bengaluru, to source products for its global supply chain from India.

Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said the new IKEA outlet would also create more employment for local artisans, carpenters and furniture designers because IKEA aims to source 50 per cent of its products locally.

The company also assured the CM 75 per cent of the jobs at the Bengaluru outlet will be given to local people. According to a PTI report, IKEA has already hired 1,000 workers, 72 per cent of whom are local, and plans to hire more.

The company’s website on Tuesday showed a ‘We are now hiring in Bengaluru’ advertisement.

3. Supply Planner, Category Area – Metal, Plastic, Float Glass and Electronics

4. Project Leader (Expansion Logistics)

5. Product Compliance Specialist

6. Multichannel Network Project Manager

7. Senior Cyber Engineer

8. Cyber Engineer

9. Sales co-worker (Basic Team)

10.Goods Flow Team Leader – VR Mall

11. SSS Team-Leader – VR Mall

The store has also said it believes in empowering women and has seen women take up jobs traditionally reserved for men, such as forklift driving, power stacking, assembly, and installation services.
