Benidorm’s Liam Conroy star Adam Gillen almost unrecognisable in reunion selfie

Adam Gillen played hapless hotel employee Liam Conroy on Benidorm between 2011 and 2018 – and he looks quite different a decade after he first joined the ITV sitcom

Benidorm star Adam Gillen looks almost unrecognisable in a reunion selfie with former co-star Tony Maudsley recently – a decade after he first appeared on the comedy series.

The 36-year-old is best known to ITV viewers for his role as Liam Conroy in the popular sitcom – playing the character from 2011 until the show was cancelled back in 2018.

The hapless character was introduced as the son of Les Conroy – played by Tim Healy, 69 – and later became an employee at the Solana himself in subsequent seasons.

And just four years after the series ended, Adam now looks dramatically different to his character – who was initially clean-shaven – as seen in a recent photo on Twitter.

It showed the actor – whose credits also include Fresh Meat – wearing a Santa hat and sporting a beard, photographed alongside his former Benidorm co-star Tony Maudsley, 53.

The pair frequently appeared in scenes together during their time on the ITV show, with Liam working with Tony’s character – Kenneth Du Beke – at his salon at one point.

Alongside the recent photo, Tony tweeted: “Christmas is always better when your favourite people come to visit.”

He then further commented: “When @adam_gillen pops round it’s like slipping into a cozy pair of slippers.”

Having been introduced as a holidaymaker in the fourth season, Liam later had jobs at the all-inclusive resort on the ITV series including being a maintenance worker.

He however is understood to have decided to leave the Solana in the final episode of the show – broadcast in May 2018 – and embarked on a career with hairdresser Kenneth.

Tony isn’t the only former co-star that Adam has remained in contact with – as he’s understood to have been in a relationship with Laila Zaidi for a couple of years.

They’re said to have met on the set of the final series of Benidorm in 2018, when Laila joined the cast. She played Cyd – introduced as the girlfriend of Rob Dawson (Josh Bolt).

Over the course of the show, cast members included the likes of Johnny Vegas, Sherrie Hewson, Sheridan Smith and Joan Collins.
