A Berkeley High student died Monday morning after falling from a parking garage about a block from the school, police said.
The incident happened about 12:40 p.m. at the garage in the 2000 block of Center Street.
“At this time,” Berkeley police spokesman Officer Byron White said via email, “there does not appear to be any signs of foul play.”
Principal Juan Raygoza notified families of the school’s students of the death in an email. Grief counselors were expected to be at the campus Tuesday morning.
Authorities reminded those who are in a mental health crisis may call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline 24 hours a day at 1-800-273-8255. That line also has a special option for veterans or military members in crisis.
Those in crisis who would prefer to text can text HELLO to 741741. That line also is open 24 hours a day.
