Best air fryer deals: Get discounts on air fryers from brands like Ninja, Instant Pot, and Tefal
Hunting for the best air fryer deals? With the best Black Friday deals now available, there are some incredible discounts to be found on air fryers.
Air fryers have enjoyed an unprecedented surge in popularity with UK households in recent months, partly due to their efficiency compared to a traditional oven, the faster cooking times, no need to preheat, and the smaller space being heated – air fryers can dramatically reduce your monthly electricity bills without any other change to your meal plans!
Air fryers aren’t simply about crispy chips (although they do that very well …and with only a dash of oil compared to the bubbling swimming pool of oil needed in traditional deep-fat fryers) these kitchen appliances can also cook stir-fry, curries, roast vegetables, bake cakes, and make desserts.
Unfortunately, the new-found popularity of air fryers has caused the biggest brands to sell out. This happened within hours of the Prime Day sales starting earlier this year, with stock being snapped up as soon as it became available.
With stock levels already perilously low – and blockbuster discounts in the Black Friday sales now live – those who want an air fryer will need to act fast. What is an air fryer?
An air fryer is a small countertop kitchen gadget that uses a powerful fan to cook food using less oil than a traditional fryer. The fan circulates hot air at high speed, ensuring that all sides of your food are crisp and perfectly browned. Because of the smaller footprint and faster cooking times, air fryers are more efficient than ovens too – cooking the same meal in less time, and costing less on your monthly energy bill too.
Despite the name, air fryers aren’t simply about crispy homemade chips and onion rings (although they do those both extremely well). These countertop oven replacements can be used to reheat leftovers, quickly cook stir-frys, roast food you’d usually reserve for the oven, and bake desserts and other sweet treats.
Another advantage of these popular kitchen gadgets – which have become a sensation in the last 12 months, with speedy recipes regularly going viral on social media – is the cleanup. The cooking components of most air fryers are dishwasher safe, so you can simply play the baskets and racks into the dishwasher alongside your plates and cutlery to avoid the Marigolds completely!
How long does food take to cook in an air fryer?
The general rule of thumb is to subtract 20% from the oven timings and reduce the temperature by 20ºC to 30ºC. Depending on the air fryer model you’re using, you might need to drop those timings (and temperature) even more.
The heating element in air fryers, which is located at the top of the gadget, takes almost no time to hit the required temperature, which makes them incredibly speedy and efficient. If your air fryer has drawer design, you should remove these and shake at regular intervals during the cooking process to ensure the oil is evenly coated.
Do you need to use oil when cooking with an air fryer?
It depends. For the best results, we’d recommend using a spray-on oil, so you can evenly coat the food before you start cooking in your air fryer. If you’re looking for crispiness, a small amount of oil is always going to help. Even when cooking homemade chips, air fryers only require a fraction of what you’d use when cooking in a frying pan or with a traditional fryer.
It’s also true that some foods – especially frozen goods, like chips, hash browns, oil rings, halloumi fries, chicken nuggets, Quorn nuggets, spring rolls and samosas – often don’t require any oil to start to crisp. If you’re trying to be healthier, it’s worth experimenting with your air fryer to see what works.
What are the disadvantages of air fryer?
Air fryers are capable of producing very high cooking temperatures at a rapid rate. This is what makes these appliances so efficient compared to traditional ovens. However, for those unaccustomed to cooking with air fryers, these blink-and-you’ll-miss-it temperature spikes can make it easy to burn food.
Given that charred food can be carcinogenic, it could take a week or so to learn how to cook some of your favourite dishes with an air fryer.
Finding the best balance between losing countertop space to a large air fryer and ensuring you can cater to larger groups of people, like Christmas dinners, can be tough too. Air fryers with larger capacities also cost more, so you’ll need to spend more for that flexibility. Those who opt for a smaller unit could find themselves still relying on the oven when catering for extended family or groups of friends, especially if you haven’t picked up an air fryer with multiple compartments.
