The InterNations Expat Insider survey asked expats around the world to rate their city on quality of life. Expats ranked their home on factors including public transport, safety and politics, leisure and climate and health and environment.
The winning city was the beautiful Austrian capital, Vienna, which ranked highly when it came to safety and green spaces.
Almost 95 percent of expats in Vienna appreciated their environment and thought that noise levels were low.
One German expat said: “The city of Vienna offers everything I could ask for and is surrounded by nature.”
Almost all the expats thought that Vienna’s public transport system was good and scored highly on everything from buses to bike lanes.

Expats felt it was easy to get around in Vienna and four in five gave its public transportation the highest possible rating.
Leisure options were also rated highly in Vienna with nearly 90 percent of expats saying they were happy with activity choices.
Healthcare was also a winner with expats and almost nine in 10 thought it was affordable in Austria.
A Swedish expat said: “Vienna is a fantastic place. The streets and air are clean. People are friendly and polite.

“It’s historical, safe for women (and everyone) with lots of things to do after work.” According to recent statistics, over 4,000 British citizens live in Vienna.
The second best city for quality of life was Basel in Switzerland. Expats thought it was safe, stable and easy to get around.
All the expats surveyed thought the public transport system was very good with one saying: “Basel is very good for commuting. I don’t have a car, and I don’t need it.”
Almost 100 percent of those surveyed said they felt safe walking around Basel and nine in 10 were happy with the city’s healthcare options.
However, Basel was viewed as less affordable than other cities, with over half of expats saying the healthcare was expensive.
The third best city for expat quality of life was Singapore which was rated the world’s safest destination.
Almost 100 percent of respondents thought the public transport options in Singapore were good.
One expat said: “Singapore has a very open and vibrant culture, and the quality of life is excellent.”
Two other Swiss cities also made the top 10. Zurich and Lausanne ranked very highly in the public transport category.
The beautiful Australian city of Sydney sneaked into the top 10 cities for expat quality of life.
Almost half of expats surveyed said they loved Sydney’s climate and weather while nearly nine in 10 thought there were plenty of leisure activities.
The Spanish capital, Madrid, and the European cities of Munich, Prague and Copenhagen also made the top 10.
