Best Perth pubs for pre-footy beers or a cheeky cocktail

We’re in the thick of footy season. Here are the best bars to catch up with mates before heading to a game.

The Camfield

An obvious, and popular, choice, Australia’s largest pub right next to the stadium draws in plenty of punters pre-game. Even if you’re not heading into the stadium itself, mega screens can keep you across the action and the pre-game atmosphere is electric.

A stone’s throw from the Fremantle train station, the Nash is not a bad spot spot for a pre-game bevvie if your starting point is south of the river. Head to the roof to soak up a birds-eye view of the Port City before watching its namesake team on the park. Just give yourself enough time to get to the stadium.

Only a 20 minute walk to the stadium, this micro-brewery is not only a great spot for some pre-game beers, but with an extensive food menu, it’s a solid option for lunch ahead of an afternoon game. It also has a private AFL room where you can watch the game on a big screen in a private room with food and drinks delivered to you, bookings required.

With nine screens dotted around this sports bar, chances are you won’t miss kick off even if you do lose track of time. Being just a 17 minute stroll across Matagarup Bridge, to the stadium, there is always plenty of pre-game atmosphere.

With one of the nicest beer gardens in the CBD, this heritage pub is a bit of a hidden gem. With the 661 bus route just 100m from the door, and buses to the stadium running every 15 minutes on game day, it’s the perfect spot to hold forth to your friends on why things would be different if you were coach.
