The comedian, 33, was chosen as the public’s favourite during a tense grand final that saw him compete against 10 other contestants.
Axel will take home a whopping cash prize of £250,000 and will perform for the Royal Family at the Royal Variety Performance later this year.
With his victory, Axel becomes the 15th winner of the ITV series, which has been on the air since 2007.
And ITV has revealed just how much Axel won the competition by, after releasing the public voting figures for Sunday night’s big finale.
Axel stormed to victory with 19.7% of the vote, clear of 14-year-old runner-up Jamie Leahey, who received 14.7% of votes from the public.
In third place, with 14.2%, was singer Tom Ball, while a further 14% of the vote went to opera performer Maxwell Thorpe.
Axel, who was working as a property maintenance manager when he auditioned for the show, was almost lost for words after being announced as the winner.
‘Words can’t even explain… I’m shaking,’ he said, when presenters Ant and Dec asked him how he felt.
‘Thank you, everyone, for voting for me. It means the world to me. Thank you to everyone at home. I can’t believe it,’ he added.

Axel had received a Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell during his impressive first audition, which fast-tracked him to the semi-finals.
Some fans had wondered whether it was fair for Axel to receive a Golden Buzzer after they discovered his 2018 Amazon Prime stand-up special, I’m Not Gonna Lie.
Axel had also previously secured himself supporting slots for American comedians Dave Chappelle and Eddie Griffin.
But the voting figures have shown that the public were still fully in support of the talent competition’s eventual winner.
Britain’s Got Talent is available to stream on ITV Hub.
