Black Adam’s Reshoots Reported to Have Added ‘DCEU Tie-In’ Post-Credits Scene

In the wake of Batgirl’s cancelation, there has been a lot of focus being put on other upcoming DC projects, including their big, imminent releases such as Black Adam. The Dwayne Johnson-led comic book movie is being hyped to the hilt by Johnson on his social media and at events like San Diego Comic-Con. According to a recent report, though, the movie went into reshoots on the back of a 60% approval rating for its first test screenings, which were worse than the reported Batgirl tests. Considering Johnson’s anti-hero is being expected to steady the DCEU ship, that is probably why it has now been suggested that the reshoots include the filming of a post-credit scene that ties the story to the wider DCEU.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Just like Shazam!, Black Adam appears, on the surface, to have very little connection to other areas of the DCEU, but that has been the problem for the franchise in the wake of the Snyderverse falling apart and the studio attempting to fast-track the whole IP to the level of Marvel Studios’ MCU. However, recent changes in strategy at Warner Bros. Discovery have now made it clear that there is going to be some big upheaval in the DCEU, and it could all start with Black Adam.

Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the most recent test screening of the movie included a “new post-credits scene introducing a new element to Johnson’s place in the DC Universe.” Following months of rumors about a Black Adam vs. Superman crossover and the unexpected appearance of Black Adam facing Superman in the animated DC League of Super-Pets, while no one is expecting that pair to meet in a live-action post-credits scene, it was recently revealed that Viola Davis will appear in the movie as Amanda Waller, and she could certainly fit in a post-credits tease very easily.

Dwayne Johnson is Committed to Black Adam’s Future

While Dwayne Johnson is one of the busiest and highest-paid actors in Hollywood right now, he has previously made it clear that as far as Black Adam is concerned, he is on board for the long term. That has obviously led to a lot of questions about how this will impact the future of the DCEU as a whole, and Johnson is seemingly ready to really help shake things up. He told ComicBook.com previously:

“I am 100% committed to not only Black Adam but then expanding the Black Adam universe, the DC universe. I am an optimist from the word, ‘Go.’ So, to me and to all of us up here, all universes exist in our heads. I will, we all will, work very hard to make sure we are honoring the mythology but also giving the fans what they want. I hear the fans, we all do, and I pick up everything they’re putting down. It doesn’t get by me, it doesn’t get by these guys [producer Hiram Garcia, producer Beau Flynn, director Jaume Collet-Serra]. This is the beginning, hopefully, fingers crossed, of a very long storytelling road that Black Adam is the anchoring jet fuel now that will then push and press this universe out.”

Black Adam arrives in cinemas on October 21.
