Details of the sixth season of the ever-mysterious Black Mirror have now been revealed, along with a few new images (courtesy of EW). Netflix, which has debuted each new season of Black Mirror since its third series in 2016, has also released a video revealing the titles for the five episodes that will make up the latest outing. And things sound as warped and disturbing as ever.

The first episode of Black Mirror season six is titled Joan is Awful and follows “an average woman who is stunned to discover a global streaming platform has launched a prestige TV drama adaptation of her life, in which she is portrayed by Hollywood A-lister Salma Hayek.” Led by Schitt’s Creek star Annie Murphy and directed by Ally Pankiw, the episode boasts a stellar cast that includes Michael Cera, Rob Delaney, Ben Barnes, Himesh Patel and, of course, Salma Hayek.

The next episode, Loch Henry, tells the tale of “a young couple who travel to a sleepy Scottish town to work on a genteel nature documentary but find themselves drawn to a juicy local story involving shocking events from the past.” Directed by Sam Miller, Loch Henry stars Atlanta’s Samuel Blenkin alongside Myha’la Herrold (Industry), Daniel Portman (Game of Thrones), John Hannah (The Mummy, The Last of Us), and Monica Dolan (Eye in the Sky).

Next up is Beyond the Sea starring Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul and Penny Dreadful star Josh Hartnett. Taking place in “an alternate 1969,” the episode follows the two men who are on “a perilous high-tech mission” and must “wrestle with the consequences of an unimaginable tragedy.” Directed by True Detective’s John Crowley, Beyond the Sea stars Kate Mara, Auden Thornton, and Rory Culkin alongside Paul and Hartnett. Based on the images below, as well as the recent trailer, it looks like Aaron Paul and Josh Harnett will find themselves exploring the cosmos…

The fourth episode of Black Mirror season six is titled Mazey Day and follows Joker star Zazie Beetz as a “a troubled starlet” who is “dogged by invasive paparazzi while dealing with the consequences of a hit-and-run incident.” Directed by Uta Briesewitz, Mazey Day stars I Am Mother’s Clara Rugaard and Top Gun: Maverick actor Danny Ramirez alongside Beetz.

Finally, Demon 79 “takes place in northern England in 1979, where a meek sales assistant is told she must commit terrible acts to prevent disaster.” Directed by Toby Haynes and starring Anjana Vasan, Paapa Essiedu, Katherine Rose Morley, and David Shields, Demon 79 is the only episode not written by just Charlie Brooker. Instead, Brooker will join forces with the head writer behind the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, Bisha K. Ali.

These five unpredictable, mind-bending stories that make up Black Mirror season six is scheduled to debut on Netflix in June this year. No doubt that, by the end, we will all wonder why we dared stare once again into the titular mirror. Hopefully, thanks to such a stacked cast, it will be worth the new nightmares…
