BLACK WEDDING: Couple’s dramatic theme in day to remember

A dramatic theme of black, burgundy and gold ensured this Gothic-style Perth wedding was one to remember.

The bride was driven to the venue by her father in his 1966 classic black Ford Mustang and the couple were married by Sofie’s aunt Jo Sterkenburg, a marriage celebrant, in front of a striking moon-shaped altar made by Michael himself.

Continuing the family affair, Sofie’s sister Yvette performed a handfasting ceremony and Sofie chose to honour her late nanna — a former milliner — by incorporating lace and embellishments from her haberdashery collection from the 1940s and 1950s into her wedding gown.

WHEN AND WHERE

Michael and Sofie were married on November 5, 2022, at Chapel Farm in Middle Swan.

DRESS

Sofie wore her own handmade wedding dress featuring a black veil and hand-beaded and embroidered embellishments of dragonflies, butterflies and beetles.

HONEYMOON

The newlyweds spent a week enjoying Denmark and the Great Southern, including visiting Mammoth Cave and climbing Bluff Knoll.
