BLACKPOOL has a special place in the hearts of many Scots, drawn to the coastal fun spot with its combination of ‘kiss me quick’ beach-side entertainment to the thrills and spills of its Pleasure Beach.
We head down there in our droves, year after year, taking in the arcades, dancing in its iconic tower ballroom (hello Strictly) topping up our tans on the beach, loving the illuminations in September and living it large on the promenade flanked by pubs, clubs, cafes, bars and bingo.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach has been pulling us in for decades and it is easy to see why.
But regulars are in for a pleasant surprise when it reopens for the 2022 season with the first of the parks White Knuckle Weekends on Saturday February 12.
A number of new additions will see the world’s best water ride reimagined, the UK’s first double-launch rollercoaster getting twisted and the world’s longest-running ice show back with a new all-singing and dancing production.
The thrilling water-ride Valhalla is back for the summer season. Brave the adventure as you travel through what has been voted The Best Water Ride in the World, for six consecutive years in the Golden Ticket Awards.
Experience fantastic special effects and extreme elements like no other ride. This six-minute high-speed, multi-sensory dark water ride takes you on a journey through scenes of fire, snow and freezing mists on Viking longboats.
Thrill riders can brave the UK’s first and only double launch rollercoaster ICON with an added twist – quite literally – when, in a first for Europe, ICON’s rear seats get adapted so that riders can spin and twist freely.
ICON launches riders with the same acceleration as a Formula One car, rising and swooping through numerous interactions with other rides before hitting a second launch which powers riders high above Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
The ENSŌ addition promises to magnify these thrills and creates a whole new experience for those who dare to get twisted.
Cool down afterward at the must-see ice skating spectacular, Hot Ice, with this year’s show Rapture.
Taking place in the purpose-built ice theatre, Pleasure Beach Arena, Hot Ice is the world’s longest-running ice show in its 86th year, and one which promises to be as fast-paced and beautifully spectacular as ever.
And you can take tour thrills to new heights as Blackpool Pleasure Beach gives you the chance to experience the UK’s tallest rollercoaster like never before.
Walk the Big One XL takes you on a guided tour of the many ups and downs of the famous 235ft tall ride.
Building on the success of the existing Walk The Big One experience, which allows guests to climb the lifthill of the ride, Walk The Big One XL takes in even more of the ride.
