It has been over a decade since the breakout success of Dark Souls and in that time the sub-genre of “Soulslike” games have been constantly growing. From fairy tales like the upcoming Lies of P to all the sequels from FromSoftware themselves, the genre seems to always have a new title added to its ever-growing list. One of the games that will be throwing their hat into the mix is Bleak Faith: Forsaken, a Kickstarter game that comes from indie developer Archangel Studios. The dark fantasy and post-apocalypse-infused title has been getting worked on for the last few years, with snippets of teasers and information being shared along the way. Now, fans have the chance to see the latest update with a brand new gameplay trailer for the upcoming game.

COLLIDER VIDEO OF THE DAY

The new trailer shows off the most recent work from the team as the player battles a boss named the “Silicon Visage,” a mechanized dragon, a combination that really shows off the world and aesthetic the game is going for: a destroyed future that has regressed to the dark ages with aspects of the lost technology sprinkled throughout. The trailer shows off some of the moveset for both the boss itself and the player character, with the former flying around the area and spawning mobs to aid them and the latter having some unique abilities like an ice slide that wouldn’t seem out of place in Mortal Kombat and summoning a giant holographic golem to slam down on the dragon. The trailer also includes a staple for those attempting to get into the genre: numerous deaths for the player, whether it be from the swipe of a wing or a giant laser, the deaths come fast and hard before the Visage is finally overcome at the trailer’s end.

Bleak Faith: Forsaken was first revealed with a short teaser trailer in February 2019 with the Kickstarter officially starting in July of the same year. Since then, the team has been providing updates on both the Kickstarter page as well as the game’s official YouTube channel, including a 12-minute gameplay showcase back in November 2020 and another nine-minute vertical slice in July 2021. There have also been further, shorter updates being shown off since then. The original goal for the Kickstarter was $30,000, which was officially reached on August 7, 2019. The upcoming game will mark the first for the independent studio and while likely lacking some polish when compared to the big names coming out of FromSoftware like the imminently releasing Elden Ring, it will still be interesting to see the unique world that the young studio is putting together.
