Blind Date: Does Kizzy sing Melody’s tune?

Kizzy, 43, says

I arrived for our date at 12pm on the dot. Ten minutes pass and I thought to myself, “I’ve either got the time wrong or I’m going to be the first blind date to be stood up!”

Thankfully, my date arrived shortly after and was so apologetic for being late. We laughed at the fact that she didn’t know if she was meeting a man or a woman — surprise, it’s me!

I honestly had no idea what to expect myself or who I would end up being matched with. My first impression of Melody was that she’s a beautiful woman. I’d describe her as a bit of a girly girl. She had a warm and friendly vibe and I felt really comfortable around her.

We sat down and the first question I asked was what is wrong with us, why are we single (laughs). Melody and I wasted no time and got straight into the juicy questions, skipping all the boring small talk. Unfortunately, the majority of those answers won’t make it to print but what I can share is that Melody is a mum of four who manages a popular restaurant in Perth. She has a really interesting background with a lot of life experience.

We got along so well, it was non-stop laughter, flowing and easy conversation. I honestly don’t think a date could have gone better!

We ordered some food to share and some drinks. All of a sudden, two and a half hours had passed!

I loved having our photos taken, it was such a good laugh. Melody had hers taken first, she was a little nervous then it was my turn and I was like, get out of my way, it is my time to shine! We joked that the photos must have been bad because the photographer ended up coming back and getting some action shots of us.

I honestly don’t have a bad thing to say about the date. No awkwardness, no beating around the bush. I am not sure if the spark was there but there was a connection and I’m confident we will see each other again, even if it is just as friends. Melody is someone I could sit with, have a drink and chat all night to.

Melody, 39, says:

I am one of those people who is late everywhere. I was so determined not to be late for the date but, despite my best efforts, I ended up being 10 minutes late!

When I arrived at the venue, I honestly had no idea what to expect. I didn’t know if my date would be a man or a woman. I walked in, saw Kizzy and thought, oh my god, you’re way too cool for me (laughs). I thought she was gorgeous!

She’s amazing and we had a really, really good time. We got on so well and chatted non-stop. It was funny because all these tables kept smiling at us like they knew what was going on.

We spoke a lot about life, how she came out, struggles involved with societal pressures, parental pressures and so much more. Kizzy and I bonded over our mutual dislike for fake people. I loved that Kizzy is just herself and she’s just rocking it, loud and proud. She’s super authentic.

Funnily enough, we hosted a blind date at the restaurant I work at and ever since, I had thought about applying, so after a little liquid courage one night, I thought, why not — I’m going to send an email!

I was super nervous beforehand as well. The anxiety of being out of my comfort zone was a lot but at the same time, I loved it. It was such a good experience. I read a lot of the other stories beforehand so I really got the feeling that you were good at matching people who are quite similar, so I knew I didn’t need to worry about ending up with someone I had nothing in common with.

There weren’t any awkward silences at all. Everything flowed so well, we laughed a lot and I think we both had a great time.

I don’t think there was an immediate spark but we still connected really well, if that makes sense. We swapped socials and we’ve been chatting since. I think we will catch up when she is back from work next and will see what happens from there.
