Bloody Daddy REVIEW:
Bloody Daddy starring Shahid Kapoor is high on action and less on content. When I say high on action, well, every alternative scene has someone getting beaten or someone beating. For the unversed, Bloody Daddy is a remake of the 2011 French film Sleepless Night. Interestingly, the movie was also remade in Tamil as Thoongaa Vanam (2015), starring Kamal Haasan. The movie captures the 24-hour incident and hence, you won’t see much going on other than action.
There’s no excitement to see what’s going to happen next as you already get to know what’s there in the store. The movie loses its grip in some parts, hence, there’s nothing to hold on to. Shahid, Ronit and Rajeev have delivered an earnest performance in this restricted plot. Since the setting of the movie was in a hotel, the scenes were felt quite repetitive in some parts. That’s why I said the plots seemed restricted.
Story:
A messed up and a tenacious man named Sumir is constantly fighting battles with the crime lords to save his son. He faces off against his fellow mates in the police department and crime lords to save the one relationship that matters to him. From tricking them to playing smart, Sumair does everything to ensure his son’s safety.
Star performances:
Shahid Kapoor is the star of the movie. From oozing the brooding looks to being a doting father, Shahid plays his part quite well. And wait, he is bloody HOT! The daddy was surely oozing some hotness and I just can’t stop drooling over him. The moment he changes himself into a black suit, I was quite smitten by his charm. If you’re a fan of the bad boy or that rugged raw looks, Shahid will surely skip your heartbeat. Speaking about his performance, Shahid seems to have known his part quite well and does a fantastic job. He truly shines in the entire movie.
Ronit Roy is another actor who demands all the right attention. He plays the bad guy in the movie and his performance was quite engaging and flawless.
Diana Penty plays another cop in the anti-corruption department who is fierce and tough. However, when it comes to her performance, she falls short. She tries hard to look like a tough cop but sadly, it doesn’t come across that way.
Rajeev Khandelwal also plays another high-ranked officer in the movie. He is smart and a little cunning, and Rajeev delivers a promising act.
Vivan Bhatena, Sanjay Kapoor and Mukesh Bhatt were seen in supporting roles and they have justified their roles.
Highlights of Bloody Daddy:
Shahid Kapoor and Ronit Roy: Shahid is the heart of the movie and Ronit is the soul. The two powerhouse talents steal all the limelight for all the right reasons. The two’s camaraderie is just palpable. This is one of the highlights of Bloody Daddy.
Ali Abbas Zafar’s direction: I don’t know about others but I feel Ali’s direction skills have been sharpened. It is crisp and accurate. Yes, we have seen how he handles the action in Tiger Zinda Hai but Bloody Daddy is different. He seems to have chosen raw and gritty action and that worked bloody well here. I’m quite amazed to see his direction skills even though there was hardly any story.
Action: Like I said at the start of the review, Bloody Daddy is high on action and it is one of the selling points for the movie. If you enjoy raw and hand combat, this could be your pick. Instead of using anti-gravity action, unnecessary slow motions or even anti-defying physics, Zafar kept it real.
Drawbacks of Bloody Daddy
Storyline: There was no real story per se. As I said, it captures all the incidents that happened in one hotel in 24 hours. All you can see is Shahid struggling and battling with the bad guys for the safety of his son. The story is not the strongest thing about the movie.
Conclusion:
Concluding my Bloody Daddy review, watch it because of Shahid Kapoor and Ronit Roy and of course, for the raw action. It’s worth watching. If you’re looking for a story, then that is missing. Bloody Daddy looks intense and gritty; however, the story doesn’t seem meaty at all.
